Kathy Griffin was one of the most talented actresses and multifaceted comedians, who won a Grammy Award five times and two times for an Emmy Award. She began her career with the Los Angeles comedy group called The Groundlings. After which she went on to audition for many roles and appeared in minor roles in movies and television shows. She has made her audiences laugh merrily with her comedic skills and her laughter invoking discussions about Hollywood stars and celebrity blunders. She was best known for her trademark rapid fire wit and her capability to fast-talk on any subject. She was also recognised for her ability to relate her experiences with celebrities in her stand-up comedy. She gained recognition and fame with her reality show, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.

Kathy Griffin was born to John Patrick Griffin and Mary Margaret in Oak Park, Illinois. She studied at St. Bernadine's Elementary School and later went to the Oak Park and River Forest High School, where she enthusiastically became a part of the school's musical theater group. During this time, her love for acting flourished and she aspired to be an actress. In 2001, she married Matt Moline in Hollywood and ended in a divorce in 2006. Year after that, she began a romantic relationship with Steve Wozniak, who was the co-founder of Apple Inc. In 2009, she was also an author of her autobiographical book, Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin, which was one of the bestselling books that also featured on the New York Times Bestseller list.

Kathy Griffin and photographer Tyler Shields were in hot water due to a photo shoot showing Kathy Griffin holding a bloodied Donald Trump mask that was made to look like the decapitated head of the president. Tyler Shields was a well-known celebrity portrait photographer known for controversial and shocking photos, and the gruesome photo was first published by the celebrity news site TMZ. According to TMZ, during the photo shoot, Kathy Griffin joked that she and Tyler Shield would need to move to Mexico once the pics got released, for fear they had be thrown in prison.

Tyler Shields says the photo came about after Kathy Griffin wanted to do something political. According to Fox News, Tyler Shields said that they kind of figured out what would be the best image to make out of that and that’s what art is meant to do. Some people look at it and they love it and some people look at it and they hate it. He also explained that he did not kill anybody nor anybody should be killed, it just happens to be a still image.

Public Reaction

The photo immediately drew a strong reaction from the public, the media, and from famous figures, even from Donald Trump himself. People from across the political spectrum have slammed Kathy Griffin, saying that she crossed the line. Donald Trump himself also tweeted that Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself and said that his children were disturbed by the photo. However, Kathy Griffin originally defended the photo, calling Tyler Shields a great photographer and saying she was merely mocking Trump. But as outrage grew, Kathy Griffin quickly asked Tyler Shields to take down the photos and apologized publicly for the shoot, saying that she went too far with it.
