Kerry Washington rejects to be pigeonholed. The actress discussed why she hasn't reprised her role as "the white girl's best friend" since appearing with Meg Ryan in 2004's Against the Ropes in her new memoir, Thicker Than Water. Washington, 46, stated in the book, "I played Ryan's coworker and confidante; this was developing a new niche for me, the white girl's closest friend.

She continues by claiming that When Harry Met Sally, one of Ryan's most well-known romantic comedies, is among her "top three" all-time favorite movies, which had an impact on her future career choices. Washington stated in the book, "Playing the role against anyone else would have been a lateral move once I had played Meg Ryan's best friend."

Washington recently spoke about her new book, in which she makes shocking revelations about everything from her childhood sexual assault to her battle with an eating issue in college. Other sections of the book go into depth about the Scandal actress's choice to have an abortion when she was in her 20s, her dreadful panic attacks as a youngster, and more.

I never imagined that I would sit down and write a comprehensive book on my life since I have always been a very private person in front of the public, the celebrity said. I can't believe that I came up with this. Washington, however, looked back on her previous trauma and embarked on a voyage of self-reflection after uncovering the heartbreaking family secret that her dad is not her real father. She is now showing extreme transparency by removing the curtain.

The latter finding, according to the Emmy winner, flipped her "world upside down," but her parents' openness has brought them all closer than ever.

She stated, "My parents are truly, really unique people. We must eventually come to terms with the fact that our parents are doing the best they can, and we must then step up and parent ourselves and act like the adults we want to be. I was constantly aware of their devotion to me.

"I think I learned a lot about myself," Washington said, "why I struggled and felt incomplete for a lot of my life." The Django Unchained actress is content no matter how things end out and is presently collaborating with a team to try to find her birth father.

"I've learned to attempt letting go of that stuff. I should live authentically in my truth. And delight," she said. Wherever books are sold, Thicker Than Water is now available.
