It has been confirmed by the National Book Foundation that Drew Barrymore will no longer be hosting the 2023 National Book Awards ceremony. This decision was made after her daytime talk show resumed filming during the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA on Monday.

The event is scheduled to take place on November 15 in New York. On Tuesday, the National Book Foundation released a statement indicating that Barrymore's invitation to host the ceremony has been rescinded. Reach dailypopmix.com for more updates.

Devoted to commemorating the potency

The statement, published on X (formerly known as Twitter), emphasised that the National Book Award is an evening dedicated to celebrating the power of literature and the invaluable contributions of writers to our culture.

The foundation's statement further explained that The Drew Barrymore Show will resume production after the announcement. The Public Book Establishment has denied Ms. Barrymore's challenge to have the 74th Public Book Grants Function.

The statement also thanked Ms. Barrymore and her team for understanding this situation. The National Book Foundation is committed to ensuring that the awards focus on celebrating writers and books. Therefore, the decision to rescind Ms. Barrymore's invitation was made in the best interest of the ceremony and its purpose.

Barrymore, who is 48 years old, was selected to host the ceremony in July, and Oprah Winfrey was invited to attend as a distinguished guest. The actress announced on Instagram her intention to resume filming The Drew Barrymore Show on Sunday.

The preceding season has been concluded

In her statement, she referred to her decision in April to withdraw from hosting the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards before the WGA strike began on May 2. Barrymore also noted that her show's previous season had completed filming before that date.

In her social media post, Barrymore stated, I take full responsibility for this decision. We comply with not discussing or promoting any film or television affected by the strike.

A resolution that applies to all individuals

I am also choosing to return for the first time during this strike for our show, which may bear my name but is more significant than just me, she said. I want to provide what writers do so well, which is a way to bring us together or help us make sense of the human experience. I hope for a resolution for everyone as soon as possible.

Since we first aired, we have faced challenging times. Therefore, I am stepping forward to begin season 4 again with a profound sense of humility. Upon the resumption of filming on Monday, a picket line was observed outside the studio premises.

A significant proportion of authors

Additionally, a member of the audience shared on X that he and another attendee, wearing pins and T-shirts to demonstrate their support for the Writers Guild of America (WGA), were expelled from the studio. The Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) commenced their strike in July.

The WGA, which represents a substantial number of writers in various media sectors such as television, film, news, and online media, initiated a strike following unsuccessful negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for better compensation, increased residuals, and restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
