As of 2023, Kylie Cosmetics is a $1 billion successful business. Kylie Jenner, the reality tv star from Keeping up with the Kardashians and to The Kardaashians is the youngest sister among them all. Her blood sibling Kendall Jenner is a world successful model who has achieved recognition internationally. Here’s how Kylie became a business woman when an idea struck her at age sixteen.
Kylie revealed on her youtube channel back in 2019, that she saved up her earnings from KUWK and pitched a business idea to her mother, also called momager by the internet, our very own Kris Jenner. Kris believed in her daughter's skills, passion and abilities to bring an idea to life. They held meetings with different people in the industry to make a dream come to life. Kylie said that she is ready to market the product herself through the power of social media and her influence on thousands of young girls and women around the world.
Growing up she was bullied for her thin lips, Kylie made her insecurity a super power, she used it to promote her own brand promising women that using her lip kits that consist of vegan cruelty free ingredients, you're doing the mother earth a favour and also the lip liner and lipstick combination will give you the perfect fuller lips just like Kylie Jenner’s today. ' I was 17 when I launched Kylie Cosmetics,' she began. 'It feels weird that this is my life now, looking back at it though, makeup has just been a part of my DNA.' Her sister Kendall was tomboy, Kendall was riding horses while she practised her makeup at home. 'When I was younger I had an insecurity with my lips,' she said. She became obsessed with makeup and how to make her lips bigger. She also said that is when she started 'overlining' her lips.'I have temporary lip fillers and it was an insecurity of mine and it's what I wanted to do,' she said.
The Idea Behind Her Makeup Line
Kylie says makeup is all about self confidence and expression. As a young girl she felt lowest at a lot of times in her life due to her insecurities regarding her looks. At that time makeup was her best friend, it made her feel pretty and enhanced her looks. 'Being on the internet, people will pinpoint every single thing about you and make you realise things you would never realise in a million years,' said Kylie.
She then said: 'Makeup has always been a great way of self-expression for me. I just knew in my soul that this was what I was supposed to do.'
Even though Kylie is being true to her audience and openly talking about her insecurities, many people believe it's just another marketing technique or a PR stunt. They think that the Jenner and Kardashian family have promoted unrealistic beauty standards by introducing normal people who aren't aware of the Hollywood trends to plastic surgery. Kylie claims to have gotten bigger lips through lip lining which is completely false, she got many lip fillers and that is why people find it hard to resonate with them. At this time, the kardashian family is trying hard to stay in the news and stay relevant to generation Z as they are not ready to fall for this being relatable with the audience marketing tactic. Even though her lip kits have been successful for the longest time, Kylie cosmetics went through a rebranding due to the loss they suffered after the pandemic and how young people seem to not care about this family anymore.
