Rise of the Floodborn. It features characters from both classic and new Disney franchises, spread across 200 cards. Characters from films like The Jungle Book, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Great Mouse Detective, Pinocchio, Zootopia, and Raya and the Last Dragon will make their first appearances in this set.

In addition to the new cards, Lorcana will also be participating in the Disney’s 100th anniversary celebration. Disney Lorcana: Disney100 Edition will contain six cards with alternate artwork drawn by Disney animators from Walt Disney Animation Studios.

According to the press release, “Each card features an exclusive Disney100 frame design, a satin holographic foil finish, and a copy of the animator’s signature prominently displayed.” These will be available for purchase in December.

The second set will also come with two starter decks in two new combinations: Amber/Sapphire and Amethyst/Steel.

With this announcement comes an expanded exploration of the lore behind Lorcana. The second set explains that there was a “mysterious flood of ink” that transformed Disney characters into the “floodborn glimmers” that appear in the card game.

The flood caused a chaos of ink colors, and as the flood receded from the Great Illuminary, lore and artifacts were lost.

Of course, focusing on more obscure Disney movie in sets is essential because the card game needs to be really durable. The animated movie portfolio includes six films. It is a lot of fun to plan the game that’ll release eight16 cards per year as well…

For example, because of the features including Flooding and Dreamborn in this mix so Disney Lorcana will continue to find ways for that special character can easily be filled with new characters from Disney’s deep roster together.

Doing a deep dive in the Disney Vault should help keep Mickey fans interested. Even the worst Disney movie has its fans, and I’m sure there will be people who are interested in collecting every Great Mouse Detective card for their collection.

I know that when it happens to play the Black Cauldron card, which will probably be added soon into Disney’s Lorcana celebration; in fact this is if they win the movie with an Enchanted Card.

Including more than 200 cards, Rise of the Floodborn is playable as a standalone limited environment, but is very much an expansion to The First Chapter as well, and builds up some of the key archetypes first introduced there. Out of the 13 cards that have been revealed for the set today, the Sorcerer, Hero, Villain, and Princess archetypes get a lot of support.

For the latter, we also get two more Princesses added to the mix, with the introduction of Raya and Tiana.

From these cards, we can also see that Ravensburger is already willing to push the boat out with some spicy effects.

The Sorcerer’s Spellbook is an item – one of Lorcana’s most difficult to remove card types – that can easily generate lore, while Belle, Hidden Archer will keep questing for three lore every turn unless you’re willing to discard your whole hand to challenge her.

Alongside Raya and the Last Dragon and The Princess and the Frog, other newcomers to Lorcana in Rise of the Floodborn include Zootopia, Basil the Great Mouse Detective, Pinocchio, and The Jungle Book.

We’ll also see more from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Mulan, and Winnie the Pooh, which had only one card each (or two for Snow White) in The First Chapter.

As revealed a few months ago, Disney Lorcana’s Rise of the Floodborn is set to launch on November 17 in local game stores, with a full big-box store release coming on December 1.

One thing missing from Rise of the Floodborn is a gift box. Instead, this will be the limited-edition Disney100 Edition collector's release, which includes four packs of the set alongside six exclusive Disney100 promo cards.
