The Yellowstone prequel 1883 moved on to the Paramount network after its streaming first season was released on Paramount+ last year. Many viewers are anticipating for more episodes to be streaming in, however last week August 13, marked the end of the Yellowstone prequel season finale.

What is “1883” About?- Why Did the Show Have a Twisted Ending?

The 10 episodes show follows the story of the Dutton family who embark on a journey west through the great plains and start taking their expansion into Montana to escape poverty in Texas. The show is starred by real-life couples Tim McGraw and Faith Hill who star as James and Margaret Dutton respectively.  Other actors in the show include Billy Bob Thornton, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann, Audie Rick, Eric Nelsen, and James Landry Hébert.

Viewers of this season might have shed a tear or two after the season finale twist. The show delivered an emotional finale after narrator Elsa Dutton-the show’s main character died in her father’s arms, James Dutton after succumbing to arrow wounds.

Creator and writer Taylor Sheridan told Deadline, “We wanted to make a 10-hour movie that ended, and that’s what we did... For me, as a storyteller it feels close ended. I’m going to peek through the window of a different era and see what I see then.”

Paramount network clearly delivered its promise of airing 1883 episodes every Sunday. Nonetheless, anything good must come to an end, and last Sunday, the 13th of August marked the finale episode of the show.

As of yesterday, Paramount Network's schedule was Bar Rescue with the show airing their rerun from 7am to 4am.

Considering the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, it is likely that Taylor Sheridan programs such as 1923, Tulsa King, Special Ops and Mayor of Kingstown to be the most likely shows to be aired weekly on the program. But this is just a speculation, it has not yet been confirmed that these shows are the ones to be aired.

Is There Going to be a Second Season?

Based on the show’s season finale we do not expect a second season. However, additional yellowstone prequel spin offs are likely to be expected. 1923 which began airing in December 2022 and was renewed for eight episodes in February this year, was the next continuation of the Dutton family. The story follows the struggle of the Dutton family in the early 20th century including the rise of Western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.

Sheridan in the meantime is working on another project with David Oyelowo named Lawmen: Bass Reeves, the project is about the US marshall.
