Ellen DeGeneres is an American TV host, comedian, producer, actress and writer. She was born on 26 January 1958 in Metairie, Louisiana. She hit the spotlight in the late 1970s by performing in local coffee houses. With her naive stories and quirky she is earning applause. She caught the attention of the cable network Showtime which named her The Funniest Person of The Year in 1982.  When she was invited to perform on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Cason in 1986, this was the time her career hit a high note. She started her career as a stand-up comedian.

In the Fox sitcom Open House, which aired from 1989 to 1990, Ellen Degeneres landed her first small-screen role as a cast member of the sitcom. The network canceled this sitcom after four episodes. DeGeneres scored her sitcom titled 'The Friends of Mine' which she renamed as Ellen.

In 1994 she told The New York Times, “I was laughing out loud when I read the script, I knew what I could do with it. I wanted to do a smarter, hipper version of I Love Lucy, only don’t take it so far that I’m in a man’s suit with a mustache trying to fool Ricky that I’m not his wife. I wanted a show that everybody talks about the next day.”

During Ellen's popularity, it came out that she was a lesbian, in reality, and on the show. A year later ABC canceled the sitcom as the rating of the show dipped and left Ellen devastated.

In 2001 Ellen returned to TV with a show "The Ellen Show" but unfortunately CBS canceled this four months of its premiere. After two years NBC took a chance and gave her a daytime talk show 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ This show is successful to date with 60 plus Emmy wins and nearly 3000 episodes. 

Soon she became part of the Disney Pixar animated movie 'Finding Nemo' as the voice of Dory. In 2020 she again found herself face to face with a scandal. Multiple former and current talk show employees came forward with allegations of intimidation, fear, racism, and sexual misconduct in the workplace. Though executive producers denied the allegation, Ellen DeGeneres apologized to them, "being looked at differently, or treated unfairly, not equal, or — worse — disregarded."

Ellen DeGeneres's net worth is $360 million with 3.9 million views per episode. Ellen's talk show has seen the likes of Michelle Obama, George Clooney, Bill Gates, and many high-profile celebrities. Ellen's growing success is due to her quirky and charming personality and as a humanitarian hero, her reputation is growing fast.
