Developing a Love for Performing as a Child
Joanna Garcia was born in 1979 in Florida and was raised in a supportive family. Her parents encouraged her interest in acting which began at age 10. In high school, she was involved in theater productions while also cheerleading and joining drama club. Her talent led to working with an agent at 15 followed by roles on TV and in films. Joanna landed recurring roles on two popular youth-oriented series in the 1990s. She played a member of the Midnight Society on Are You Afraid of the Dark? She portrayed a mean girl antagonizing the geeks at school on Freaks and Geeks. Garcia Swisher demonstrated her acting abilities on these cult favorite shows.
Achieving Fame as Cheyenne on Reba
Joanna reached household name status playing Cheyenne Hart-Montgomery on Reba alongside singer Reba McEntire. Her character dealt with an unplanned pregnancy and a quick marriage as the eldest daughter. The show was a hit for its humor about family relationships. It won the 2002 People's Choice for Favorite New Comedy Series. McEntire became a mentor for Garcia Swisher who formed a close friendship with the country icon.

Joanna met former pro baseball player Nick Swisher at a party in 2009 and they quickly bonded. They got engaged in 2010 and married in 2011 in Florida. They have two daughters. Garcia Swisher cites her girls as her greatest joy. She and Nick frequently showcase their loving relationship on social media. They have even worked together co-hosting a Bachelor anniversary special and starring in a Hallmark Christmas movie.

Joanna now hosts The Ultimatum on Netflix which started in 2021. The show follows LGBTQ couples deciding to marry and break up. JoAnna helps guide the couples and shares her experiences. The show celebrates queer love but also talks about important issues. Joanna says she is honored to host the show and has learned a lot.
