The Last Of Us

The Walking Dead was undoubtedly one of the shows, during the zombie trend of the 2000s and 2010s. Although that trend peaked and gradually declined over time it continued to shuffle like a zombie until The Last of Us came onto the scene.

HBOs top notch television series, based on a highly regarded video game, with the title tells the story of two individuals who navigate a post apocalyptic America. This devastated world has been overrun by creatures covered in mushroom-like growths, whose sole purpose is to feed and spread the fungal plague. Ellie, a girl portrayed by Bella Ramsey, may hold the key to finding a cure. Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, has been assigned the task of safeguarding her during their journey, through this desolate landscape.

If you're in the mood for an action series set in an apocalyptic world, where things may not always make perfect sense but still captivate your attention then I highly recommend checking out See on Apple TV+. The story takes place in a future where a widespread virus has left people blind leading to a society that has regressed into factions. Jason Momoa takes on the role of Baba Voss, a warrior who becomes the guardian of two children with the ability to see. Like The Walking Dead this show delves into the struggle for survival. Offers the added thrill of watching Jason Momoa unleash his fierce combat skills. See draws inspiration from both The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones when it comes to its world building though it may not reach the levels of excellence as either series. Nonetheless it provides plenty of action. Boasts stunning visual aesthetics.

Station Eleven

While Station Eleven is another acclaimed series available on HBO Max it differs from The Walking Dead in that it doesn't include horror elements. Instead if you enjoy character driven narratives that explore how people come together to rebuild society after an event then this show is perfect for you. Based on Emily St. Johns apocalyptic novel Station Eleven unfolds across two timelines; one, during the alarming onset of a viral pandemic and another twenty years later as survivors attempt to navigate their way through what remains of the Midwest.

The story revolves around a group of actors performing plays during their travels bringing joy and entertainment to people they encounter. What sets it apart from post-apocalyptic shows, including The Walking Dead is the presence of a vital element; hope.

Falling Skies

You've probably witnessed how zombies can bring about the collapse of society. Now let's explore the impact of an invasion. TNTs Falling Skies aired during The Walking Dead's reign, from 2011 to 2015. While The Walking Dead garnered popularity Falling Skies quietly gained a devoted following over its five seasons. Both shows depict stories of survival, where groups of survivors strive to secure food, shelter and safety amidst the chaos. Sometimes the biggest threat they face is not the aliens but other humans. Unlike The Walking Dead Falling Skies follows a narrative structure centered around Tom Mason (played by Noah Wyle) who can be seen as this shows equivalent to Rick Grimes. Tom must unravel the mystery behind why aliens enslave children and uncover their larger plans while simultaneously navigating personal dramas involving his three sons and his complicated feelings for a certain doctor named hottie Tim Surette.

The CWs apocalyptic series delves into science fiction territory while sharing many similarities with The Walking Dead in terms of tone and atmosphere. It echoes The Walking Dead in its mood of complex protagonists and an expansive ensemble cast filled with beloved characters whose fates hang by a thread at any moment. Set 97 years, after an apocalypse it revolves around the remaining survivors living on an orbiting space station called The Ark.

When the Ark is faced with overpopulation a solution is implemented by sending 100 offenders to Earth. Their mission is to assess whether the atmosphere, which has been affected by radiation, is now suitable for habitation.
