SofIa Vergara has set her name in stone in Hollywood for her amazing acting skills, and witty humour. The Colombian actress conquered Hollywood without losing her accent or her unique personality.
Vergara first came to the U.S. from Colombia in 1995 on Univision’s dime to host a travel show called Fuera de Serie. “In the 1990s there was a lot of Hispanic talent working for Univision but nobody to represent us,” says Vergara. She sensed opportunity but couldn’t find a manager.
But as a determined lady, she decided to pay an intern to make calls on her behalf, “just to have someone besides me to say how wonderful I was.” And from then on, her rise to fame began. Let’s see some amazing secrets that has kept Sofia at the top in the movie industry.
Sofia Vegara’s agelessness
Not many actresses in Hollywood can still slay at 50, but Sofia just continues to prove that age is just a number as she seems to be aging backwards.
The star actress can still be seen on her Instagram posting beautiful pictures of herself in Bikinis still rocking a body of a 20 year old.
Even back in 2013, when she turned the big 40 which is an age most women try not to celebrate, Sofia Vergara broke that stereotype and went all out to throw herself a huge party. For her big day, July 10, she flew 108 of her closest friends and family including Modern Family costars and creator Steve Levitan to Playa del Carmen, Mexico for a weeklong celebration at the ultralux Rosewood Mayakoba resort, racking up a bill that could top $2 million.
She runs her own film company
There’s more to Sofia than just acting. For more than 20 years she and partner Luis Balaguer have shrewdly built up their company, Latin World Entertainment, from a Miami talent-management firm into a licensing, marketing, production and new-media powerhouse. According to a source inside the firm as far back 2011, the revenue of the firm was at $27 million with a healthy profit margin near 20%. With big clients including Disney and Paramount; their YouTube channel, NuevOn, premiered in April and immediately sold out ad inventory to Procter & Gamble through 2013.
Over the years Vergara and her partner has worked to establish strong opportunities for Hispanic actors and actresses alike. When asked her goal for the company, she stated “The truth is out that we’re in this country and we’re taking over,” says Vergara. “To see people paying attention to the cultural changes that Luis and I have seen coming for a long time is fantastic.”
She owns her own lingerie line
In 2016, Vergara launched her own lingerie line, EBY, with styles and designs for all body types and figures that come in a variety of colors and sizes.
Showing her kindness and continuous support for women, Sofia stated that 10% of EBY sales go to help women overcome poverty and empower them into business through microfinance loans. EBY has been an enormous success and has helped make Vergara a role model for women of all sizes.
She is a very good actress
Apart from all the extras, the major secret to Sofia Vergara’s success in Hollywood, is her exceptional acting skills. Although she has been criticised by other Hispanic actresses for holding up the Latino stereotypes, Vergara stills continues to give her best performances in any movie she stars in.
Mexican actress Kate del Castillo who is amongst these critic voiced her opinion: “I love her, but not all of us have the look of Sofia Vergara,” she said, referring to the lack of non-ethnic roles for Hispanic actors. Vergara, daughter of a rancher and a housewife, would also prefer more variety, but, as she says, she isn’t afraid of the stereotype. “I have this accent, and I paid a ton of money to get rid of it when I couldn’t understand why Penélope [Cruz] or Salma [Hayek] hadn’t done it. But it didn’t work,” she has said, referring to fellow actresses who hold their ground as Hispanics in Hollywood.
Sofia is also very funny and adds a dash of humour to the shows that she stars in. This why despite her accent she still continue to be in high demand.
After starring in bit hit movie Modern Family, Sofia was the best-paid actress in television for seven straight years, with annual income over €35 million. In 2018, her last year as the best-paid actress, she made €37.3 million, dwarfing the income of Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco, who appeared second on the list.
