Gine Miles is a 19-year-old American pop singer-songwriter who was crowned with the title of the winner of The Voice USA season 23 earlier this year. She is originally from Paxton, Illinois, but is now living in Sacramento, California. After the two-hour last episode was about to end, her name was announced as the winner. Niall, who mentored her throughout the season, rushed to hug her. She was incredibly thankful for his support. 'I'm not going to cry but your friendship and your mentorship has been very special to me,' Gina said. 'And I love you. So thank you for choosing me and giving me this opportunity. Love you.'
She was raised by a single dad who was also a DJ, so growing up Gina was always surrounded by music and was intrigued to find out more about her singing skills. She became more involved in helping his father set up music equipment as she started growing up. Throughout high school, she felt that music was her passion and she should pursue it more seriously but her small town was limiting her abilities. She wanted to stand out and make a name for herself so through her stepmother and dad’s support, she was able to move in with her aunt in Sacramento. She attended Paxton Buckley High School and prior to moving after her junior year to finish high school in California, she was a member of the show choir and band at PBL High School. Gina is just 19 years old, making her the second-youngest finalist on The Voice Season 23.
While The Voice is for unknown stars to break into the industry Gina has actually made music before. Gina isn't a newbie, she already had released her first EP, Who Are You, in 2022 way before she auditioned for The Voice. The EP consists of 5 tracks. Who Are You marked her first drop of original music? The Voice gave her a platform to improve her writing and singing skills and also brought her immense recognition or else a talent like this would have stayed hidden from this world. She has mentioned numerous times previously that her family support system has gotten her through the hard days and is her number one fan. They are the reason why she never lost hope and continued to pursue her dreams. She dedicated her award to her parents and coach Niall Horan who always believed in her capabilities and skills. Even though she wishes to bring country and pop into her music, her debut album was called very experimental and beginner-friendly by the critics.
In the blind auditions, Miles sang "The One That Got Away" by Katy Perry. Kelly Clarkson and Niall Horan, two of the four coaches, turned their chairs for her, even though Chance the Rapper and Blake Shelton didn't. It was a tough decision to choose a coach but she ended up choosing to join Team Niall. During the competition, Miles revealed in an interview with People magazine that her experience on the show was "emotionally draining and scary", while simultaneously being "the best experience of her life like no other".Her finale performance of "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinéad O'Connor received immense appreciation online from the audience. Before Miles was announced as the winner of the season, host Carson Daly revealed that the winner of the season, which was revealed to be Miles soon after, had the slimmest margin of victory in all twenty-three seasons of the show. Her win was indeed very unexpected, her closest competitor, runner-up Grace West, from Blake Shelton's team, could also have been the winner. Ultimately, Miles won US$100,000 and signed a record deal with Republic Records, a label owned by Universal Music Group. Soon after the win, on July 6, 2023, Miles teased her upcoming song, "Someone New", via Instagram.
