Fifty one year old Karan Kumar Johar also known as KJo is an Indian filmmaker and television personality, who is well renowned for his exceptional work in the Hindi cinema. During his successful career, he has launched the careers of numerous new talents under his own Dharma Productions. His production house has received two National Film Awards and seven Filmfare Awards, In 2020, he has been honored with Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian award by the Government of India. 

He is the son of producer Yash Johar, Karan made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy-drama Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 1998 for which he was awarded the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment as a director, the Filmfare Award for Best Director and the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay. His two blockbuster hit films, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... 2001 and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna 2006, were immensely successful both internationally and nationally. In 2010 he received his second Filmfare Award for Best Director for his film  My Name Is Khan. Johar has also produced the spy thriller Raazi 2018 and the biopic Shershaah 2021, for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Film, with the National Film Award – Special Jury Award as a producer respectively.  Apart from his producing and directing career, Karan Johar can also been known as one of the elites of India. He has ventured into new tv shows and talk shows in the Bollywood entertainment industries such as Koffee with Karan, a dating show What the Love! and a radio show Calling Karan. Moreover, he also appeared as a judge on competition reality shows Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and India's Got Talent.

The new season of Kofee with Karan was premiered at midnight on Thursday, with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh as guests. Karan Jauhar launched this eighth season with a new narrative in mind, to have more in-depth conversations instead of the usual gossip-inducing ones. In a teaser for his show, he is being roasted by none other than himself, his alter ego who calls him out on him favoring nepotism and how his show has nothing new to offer to the audience. On the couch, the real-life couple Deepveer revealed some surprising details about their married and dating life. As we all know, Deepika, who has always been open about her mental health struggles, she also has a nonprofit organization called Live Laugh Love. The main aim of this foundation is  to destigmatize mental health and help those who need professional assistance. Karan opened up about his own struggle and how he faced a major depressive episode recently during the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre Launch.

“I think there were three tough years of the pandemic and there was trolling and I didn't realize that I was trying to be tough and resilient and brush things under the carpet.” Karan explained as he tried to figure out the reason why he had a breakdown. “The legit attack I had was at the NMACC launch,” revealed Karan to which Ranveer exclaimed in shock. “I remember Varun (Dhawan) was staring at me. I was sweating, I didn't even realize. He came to me, held my hand and asked ‘Are you okay?’ And my hands were shaking." Ranveer was still shocked remembering he did meet Karan the same day.

When Varun noticed Karan panicking, he took him to another room, held Karan’s hand the whole time and reminded him to practice some breathing exercises. “I got out of my long and elaborate jacket and I left in half an hour. I just went to my bed and I wept. I just cried and I didn't know why I was crying.” said Karan describing the situation as a gloomy dark feeling, for a moment he thought he was having a heart attack. After the event ended, Karan consulted his psychologist who immediately put him on a specific medication. He is well now, continuing the conversation, Deepika shared her own experience with depression and how Ranveer always stood beside her regardless of her struggle.
