Elon Musk has proposed implementing a subscription-based model for X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. During a discussion on artificial intelligence (AI) broadcast on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's X account on Monday, the SpaceX founder suggested that users may be charged a small monthly fee for access to the platform.

The incidence of hate speech has been diminished

Although Musk did not provide details on the cost or timing of the proposed paywall, he indicated that it could address the issue of bots on the platform. According to CNN, Musk's discussion with Netanyahu was intended to focus on artificial intelligence (AI). Still, it also took place amidst criticism that X's enforcement of hate speech has been reduced.

Netanyahu commended Musk for his dedication to free speech, but he requested that Musk take measures to combat antisemitism on the platform. Musk declared, "I am unambiguously against anti-Semitism and all types of animosity or discord." I support initiatives that benefit society and lead us towards a better future for humanity as a whole."

Since acquiring the company for $44 billion in October 2022, Musk has been implementing changes on the platform. Following the acquisition, the platform introduced a revamped Twitter Blue subscription that allows users to pay a monthly fee of $8 for premium privileges, including a blue check mark.

The mark previously indicated that a user was "verified" as authentic. The change received mixed reactions from celebrities, such as Ciara, who stated in a post on the platform, "Whether I have a blue check or not, I know my fans are still checking." The Game expressed on the platform, "The check may be gone, but the money is still coming."

The imposition has been declared

In July, Mr Musk declared the "temporary restrictions" imposition on Twitter accounts, encompassing a cap on the number of tweets that accounts could peruse daily.

Subsequently, he revealed that verified accounts would be permitted to access up to 6,000 posts per day, while unverified accounts would be allowed to access 600 posts daily. Furthermore, "new" unverified accounts were subjected to a limit of 300 posts per day.

Setting limits for the accounts

Later on, he announced a fresh update. In a post on X, it was communicated that the rate limits for verified accounts will soon increase to 8,000, while unverified accounts will have a limit of 800, and new unverified accounts will have a limit of 400.

This change was implemented with the business owner's decision to rebrand the company from Twitter to X. In a post made in late July on X, it was shared that the acquisition of Twitter by X Corp was made to ensure freedom of speech and as a means to accelerate the growth of X, the everything app.

The capability to publish a wide range of content

This rebranding is not merely a name change but a strategic move towards the same objective. The name Twitter was originally fitting when the platform was limited to 140-character messages, akin to birds tweeting. However, with the ability to post almost anything, including lengthy videos, the name no longer aligns with the platform's capabilities.

In the coming months, comprehensive communication features and the ability to manage one's entire financial world will be added to the platform. As such, the name Twitter no longer serves its purpose and must be bid adieu.
