Personal Life And Career

Selena Marie Gomez was born to former actress Amanda Dawn Cornett, and her Mexican husband, Ricardo Joel, in the Grand Prairie city of Texas. When she was only five years old, her parents separated, and her grandparents played an important role in her upbringing. After her parents separated, she and her twenty-one year old mother struggled to survive amidst dire poverty. Amanda's stage performances inspired Selena to choose a career in acting, and soon the little girl was attending try-outs. One of the famous Selena Gomez television films, titled Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie was considered to be the most successful amongst all her work. This star was also known for her philanthropic activities, including her association with the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF movement and has worked for UNICEF in Ghana, volunteering for the betterment of underprivileged children in the country. She has also been involved with other organizations and campaigns like DoSomething.org, Island Dog, RAISE Hope for Congo, Friends for Change, Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, and Hope for Haiti Now, amongst many others. She has served various causes from child welfare to protection of animals to environmental concerns.

Selena Gomez was no stranger to the importance of mental health and physical health. In 2014, according to Everyday Health, she was diagnosed with lupus and has had to endure chemotherapy and a kidney transplant as a result of the disease. Then in 2020 during an Instagram Live chat with Miley Cyrus, according to Vogue, Selena Gomez also shared that she had also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Living through some difficult times, including failed relationships and internet rumors, and coming out on the opposite side, she knows how difficult mental health challenges can be and recently opens up about her mental health journey in a new documentary.

Opens Up Her New Documentary

Selena Gomez has opened up about using her platform to help fans understand their struggles with mental health after speaking candidly about her own struggles. According to an interview with Fast Company, the Only Murders in the Building star explained that she never expected to be able to reach the amount of people that she can, and she wants to use that responsibility wisely.She referred to was titled: Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, which premiered in 2022 and featured an intimate look into her mental health successes and struggles. In 2020, Gomez received a bipolar diagnosis in addition to her experience with lupus and a kidney transplant in 2017.

Selena Gomez has also embraced her stance on mental health with her makeup brand, Rare Beauty, which was first launched three years ago. The singer has made it the company’s mission to support a number of charities that are working to end mental health stigma through its Rare Impact Fund. Rare Beauty donates one per cent of all of their sales to the fund while raising additional funds with philanthropic foundations, corporate partners, and individuals in the community to increase access to mental health services in educational settings, according to the company’s website. Currently, the company is in the middle of its Your Words Matter campaign, an educational campaign with the goal of inspiring and offering guidance on how to share and how to respond when talking about mental health.
